Public Interest Law
The term Public Interest Law has grown to encompass a broad range of activities by lawyers and non-lawyers (non-governmental organisation) committed and working toward civil rights, civil liberties, women’s rights, consumer rights, environmental protection, if applicable in the form of a class action – that is, representing segments of society whose access to judicial processes is/was curtailed for any number of reason(s). The concept of class action, albeit limited to infringement of constitutional rights has been introduced into South African law.
